FIR against contractor and 2 others

Mangaluru, Karnataka: The Mangaluru police have filed a case against three persons in connection with an accident at a construction site in which a worker was killed, police said on Friday.

The FIR was filed against Venugopal, the contractor of the project, and two others, it said.

Chandan Kumar, a worker, was killed in a landslide at the construction site on Wednesday while another worker was injured.

According to Anupam Aggarwal, police commissioner of Mangaluru city, investigations to determine the cause of the incident are still ongoing.

The Karnataka Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board has awarded compensation of Rs 200,000 to Chandan Kumar’s family.

The contractor also paid a compensation of Rs 200,000 to the relatives of the deceased.

Labor Department officials said the workers’ families would be insured under the Workers’ Compensation Act.
