Video: Biden arrives for first presidential debate against Trump in Atlanta

Watch live as Joe Biden arrives in Atlanta to face Republican rival Donald Trump in the first presidential debate of 2024.

The two men will face off on Thursday, June 27, in an unusually early debate that will give voters a side-by-side look at the two oldest candidates ever to seek the nation’s highest office.

The 90-minute televised debate, the first between a sitting president and a former president, will air at 9 p.m. ET (1 a.m. GMT Friday) on CNN and is expected to draw a large audience.

A record 84 million viewers watched Mr Trump’s first debate against Hillary Clinton in 2016.

Both men enter political life this time with vulnerabilities that present a mix of risks and opportunities.

The debate is taking place much earlier than usual – more than four months before Election Day on November 5 – and against a backdrop of national opinion polls showing the two men deadlocked.

Mr. Trump, 78, will take the stage as a felon who still faces three criminal cases, including charges related to his efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

Meanwhile, Mr Biden, 81, is under intense pressure to avoid verbal stumbles and deliver a spirited debate, after months of Republican claims that his faculties have dulled with age.
