Former Atlanta Hawks player Dominique Wilkins becomes investor in real estate company aimed at helping tenants build equity

Former Atlanta Hawks player Dominique Wilkins is committed to a winning cause.

According to a press release, the NBA Hall of Famer is now focusing on Roots, a real estate company based in Atlanta, Georgia, that offers a model that benefits investors and tenants.

According to its website, the company will purchase, manage and rent homes to tenants.

From there, individuals can become investors, and tenants can also join if they comply by paying their rent on time and maintaining the property.

Since Roots launched in 2021, the company has raised $33 million from more than 6,000 investors to support its mission.

Wilkins is now one of its investors and also serves as a partner and spokesperson for the company. His intention in supporting the brand is to create more real estate opportunities for people who are often marginalized.

Moving forward, Wilkins’ work with the company will include using his likeness in videos and at rallies to promote Roots and its exclusive “Live in it Like You Own it®” program, which encourages residents to invest their first deposit and quarterly remittances in the Roots REIT (real estate investment trust).

“By following the program, tenants increase their assets on average by $3,600 in just two years and up to $10,000 in five years,” we can read in the press release.

Reflecting on the company’s efforts and its role, Wilkins said in a press release: “Roots offers anyone the opportunity to invest in real estate. I love Atlanta, and as long as the wealth gap continues to widen, generations of people are being left behind. We can change that at Roots, and I feel like this might be the best team I’ve ever played on.

Roots founder and CEO Daniel Dorfman also shared a statement.

“Dominique is exactly the person we wanted to join us on this mission. He is an Atlanta legend and cares deeply about this city and its people. I grew up watching Dominique lead the Hawks to victory, and his support means we can reach more people on and off the field,” Dorfman said.
