News Flash • Fatal accident investigation

ABILENE, TX –

An Abilene man died shortly before noon on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident.

A 58-year-old man was driving a Mazda CX5 southbound at 9800 West Lake Road when his vehicle left the roadway. The vehicle crossed into the other lane and eventually rolled several times before he was ejected from the vehicle.

Passing motorists stopped to help the man but were unable to pull him from the wreckage. The vehicle caught fire and the driver was seriously injured. He was taken to hospital by ambulance, where he was pronounced dead.

Next of kin have been notified. The man has been identified as 58-year-old Ebony Montrain Kellum. He was the only occupant of the vehicle when the accident occurred. The cause of the accident and the cause of the fire remain under investigation. No other injuries were reported. Kellum was believed to not be wearing a seat belt.
