Eight-hour standoff in Sidney ends with Augusta man arrested

An Augusta man faces nine charges after he was arrested Wednesday following an eight-hour standoff with police. State police told Maine’s Total Coverage that they were informed that Marlon Cloutier was at a family member’s home in Sidney. Officials say the 33-year-old was wanted by officers in Kennebec County for burglary, theft of firearms, violating conditions of release, violating a protection order and possession of a firearm. After the initial call at 8:15 a.m., state troopers reportedly arrived and confirmed that Cloutier was at the home and that the occupants had left the home shortly after Cloutier’s arrival. “Due to the nature of the warrant and recent threats of violence,” tactical and crisis negotiation teams were called shortly after 12 p.m. Surrounding homes were evacuated and Sunset Ridge was closed to traffic. After eight hours of negotiations, Cloutier was taken into custody. He is being held in the Kennebec County Jail and now faces additional charges of creating a police standoff, bail violation, possession of Schedule W drugs and refusing to submit to arrest.
