Cyclists warn others after vicious dog attacks

TULSA, Oklahoma — Tulsa Tough is just a week away, and several cyclists are raising alarm after they say they were brutally attacked by the same dogs within a year of each other.

It happened outside a house near 56th Street North and Yale out on the street.

Corinna Tressler said she was on a bike ride with friends on Memorial Day and as they were riding down the road near 56th Street North and Yale, she suddenly heard barking.

“I heard barking, dogs barking. I’m a veterinarian and I thought, well, that’s nice. All of a sudden I look down and there’s a black dog lunging at me and grabbing my left leg. I passed out and when I came to, the black dog was on my left leg and the brown dog was on my right leg. They were biting and pulling, biting and pulling like I was a dead deer, and they were trying to drag me back across the road,” Tressler said.

She said her friends were desperately trying to get the dogs away from her.

“Eventually the owner heard the screaming and I think he came out and kept saying, ‘Get back in the fence,’ ‘get back in the fence,’ don’t get out, oh no, get back, bad dogs, none of that. The dogs didn’t listen to him and when he finally came toward us, the dogs ran back to the fence,” Tressler said.

She said she asked the owner of the dogs if they were vaccinated and he answered “yes.”

“Then he and his son started yelling at us that it was our fault and using all kinds of vulgar words and you cyclists always cause this kind of thing, so anyway, I went back to my car and drove to the emergency room,” Tressler said.

She has numerous injuries, including a broken collarbone, multiple dog bites on both legs, and an abrasion on her knee.

Tressler is not the only victim of the dogs.

2 News also spoke to a woman named Rebecca Reese.

She said she was cycling with her husband last August when the same two dogs ran into the road and started attacking them.

“With Carinna’s recent history, I’m just so scared. I feel like a child has to drive by now or their parents are going to kill the child. I feel like that’s what’s going to happen because these dogs are bloodthirsty,” Reese said.

She said she was left with mild whiplash, bruising, numerous abrasions and a dented helmet, not to mention the emotional toll the attack had on her.

Due to her injuries, Corinna will not be participating in the Tulsa Tough race on June 7-9 this year.

Rebecca will be taking part in this year’s race.

2 News reached out to the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office to find out what was being done about the dogs.

They sent us this statement with the following content:

“When a dog bites someone, the owner must follow a specific procedure. The owner will receive a summons and be subject to legal obligations, including ensuring the dog’s vaccinations are up to date and that the dog is secured. The incident is a civil matter, and under Oklahoma law, dogs are considered property. Once the owner meets these requirements, their dogs will be returned to them. The Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office ensures that all incidents are documented and appropriate action taken.”
