Driver killed, passenger injured in crash in Sussex County early Monday

Virginia State Police have released the identity of the person killed in the fatal March 4 car crash on Route 39 in Bath County.

SUSSEX COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) – A car crash in Sussex County early Monday morning left one person dead.

Virginia State Police were called to the scene on Route 40, near Lobb Shop Road, around 4:15 a.m. on July 15.

The investigation revealed that a 2005 Cadillac Escalade was traveling east on Route 40 when it left the road, rolled several times and struck a tree.

Jarrell R. Thomas, 34, of Waverly, was driving the vehicle, state police said. He died at the scene of the accident.

A passenger was taken to VCU Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
