5 Outfielders the Atlanta Braves Should Target in the 2024 MLB Draft

5 Outfielders the Atlanta Braves Should Target in the 2024 MLB Draft

After wrapping up the final infield position earlier this week, we now turn our attention to the outfield where the Atlanta Braves could see numerous players selected in the 2024 MLB Draft later this month.

With a first-round selection also a possibility, here are three outfielders in particular the Braves should consider targeting in the upper rounds in July.

Vance Honeycutt (North Carolina)

With outside prospects like Braden Montgomery and James Tibbs expected to go in the top half of the first round, the next name to watch for the Braves could be Honeycutt. A college prospect out of North Carolina, Honeycutt has hit .293/.412/.638 with 65 HR, 170 RBI and 76 SB over the last three seasons with the Tar Heels. He’s an intriguing player with tools like fielding, power and running that are all considered above average.

Ryan Waldschmidt (Kentucky)

One player who was often mocked by Atlanta in the first round is Waldschmidt, who also comes out of the college ranks of Kentucky. Waldschmidt, who is one of the best outfield hitters in this draft, spent the last two seasons at Kentucky after starting his college career at Charleston Southern, and is coming off a breakout 2024 season where he hit .333/.469/.610 with 14 HR, 46 RBI and 25 SB.

Griffin Burkholder (Freedom, Virginia)

Burkholder, a West Virginia player who attends Freedom High School in Virginia, could be a prep player to watch in particular. The talented outfielder has tools that allow him to be at least average across the board, including his superior speed, and he is likely to come off the board at some point in the first two or three rounds.

Dylan Dreiling (Tennessee)

Another name to watch in the second or third round is Dreiling, who is coming off a two-year breakout season in Tennessee in which he hit .328/.452/.689 with 30 HR, 95 RBI and five SB. Dreiling is also coming off a breakout 2024 season for the National Champions in which he hit .342/.459/.715 with 23 HR, 75 RBI and four SB.

Terrence Kiel II (Pace Academy, Georgia)

We conclude with a Georgia State prep prospect in Kiel, who attends Pace Academy in Atlanta. An elite athlete who is also a three-star football prospect, the Texas A&M baseball player is one of the fastest players in this draft, coming off a solid senior season in which he hit .500/.591/.826 with two HRs, 31 RBIs and 33 SBs.

In addition to the five mentioned above, here are some other outfielders the Atlanta Braves could target in the 2024 MLB Draft: Dakota Jordan (Mississippi State), Braylon Payne (Elkins, TX), Kavares Tears (Tennessee)

With each of them likely to be selected in the first two rounds of the 2024 MLB Draft, will any of the above names make it to the Atlanta Braves?
