PITTSBORO, Mississippi (WCBI) – A Calhoun County man is accused of raping an elderly woman and then fleeing from police.

Dekota Humphrey, 27, faces several charges, including rape with intent to rape, aggravated assault, domestic violence, driving under the influence and hit and run.

He remains in the Calhoun County Jail.

A series of events led to his arrest on Thursday afternoon.

Officers were called to a home on County Road 311 because a person had been assaulted.

Sheriff Greg Pollan said Humphrey stole the victim’s truck and later crashed it a few miles away on Route 314.

The department’s new police dog, Rooster, and his colleagues pursued Humphrey several hundred yards into the woods.

There he was taken into custody.

The investigation is ongoing and further charges are likely to be filed.
