On Wednesday’s show: We get an update on the heavy precipitation expected today across the Texas Gulf Coast. And a new report coinciding with Juneteenth details the state of black Texas these days.

Also this time: We discuss the latest political developments in our weekly roundup.

And a big part of Juneteenth celebrations in some rural Texas communities over the years is an annual rodeo. A new book on this subject, called Juneteenth Rodeo, celebrates this tradition with photos and essays, including writings by Demetrius Pearson of the University of Houston. We relisten to a 2021 conversation with him about his book, Black Rodeo in the Texas Gulf Coast Region: Charcoal in the Ashes.

Audio from today’s show will be available after 11:00 a.m. CT. We also have a free podcast here, on iTunes, Stitcher and other apps.
