A free agent for Buffalo to sign himself

A free agent for Buffalo to sign himself

Just like the rest of the NHL teams, the Buffalo Sabers have unrestricted free agents. Some of these names include Zemgus Girgensons, Tyson Jost, Victor Olofsson and Eric Robinson. After reviewing the pending unrestricted free agent list, defenseman Jeremy Davies is one of those players.

Davies signed with the Sabers a few years ago as a free agent and spent most of his time with Buffalo’s AHL affiliate, the Rochester Americans. Even though he’s not the most appealing name, I think he should be the player Buffalo brings back for several reasons.

First, he won’t cost a lot of money since his AAV this year was $775,000. The other reason he should be brought back is because it will help the Sabers themselves as well as the Americans. Jeremy had his best season in the AHL this year scoring 12 goals and recording 23 assists in 66 games played with Rochester.

He unfortunately suffered an injury during the Amerks’ Game 5 loss to the Syracuse Crush, forcing him to miss the remainder of the game. Despite his injury, he played a vital role in the Americans’ success this season and was part of the top duo.

For Rochester, he is one of their best players. As for Buffalo, he could be a key piece to bring back. The Sabres’ blue line needs improvement and while Davies won’t be heavily considered as an option, he could serve as a 7th player or, as I just said, a depth player.

Some fans might wonder why not bring back Girgensons or Jost. To be honest with you, I think Buffalo should move on with Girgensons. As for Tyson, I’m not really sure. But the Sabres’ bottom six players need to be retooled.

The next team Buffalo should steal a UFA from is the Calgary Flames.
