Forecast First warning: Dangerous heat approaching

The Minnesota Weather Service has issued an initial warning for Monday. Due to the high heat and humidity, temperatures will feel like 100 to 105 degrees at times in the afternoon. There is also the possibility of severe storms overnight.

The heat is coming! Temperatures are soaring into the high 90s to low 95s for the first time since early August. Humidity will also continue to rise Sunday and Monday. Sunday afternoon will feel like highs of 90 to low 95. If you plan on going to the State Fair, please remember to drink plenty of water! Monday is dangerous heat day. Highs in the 90s to low 95s are likely from the Twin Cities to the south, and the humidity could make it feel as hot as 105 degrees in the afternoon. With these conditions, you’ll need to limit time spent outdoors and make sure the very young and the very old in your community are prepared for uncomfortable conditions.

A cold front moves into western Minnesota Monday afternoon. Scattered storms are likely in that half of the state, and some could bring large hail and strong winds. As they move east, it’s questionable whether they’ll stick together and reach the Twin Cities. If so, that would be after sunset, but there could still be strong winds and heavy rain. Those showers and storms will continue into Tuesday morning, and temperatures will drop to around 27 degrees by midweek. Another wet day is likely Thursday, and pleasant conditions will return for Labor Day weekend.
