A teenager raped his sister when she was eight years old, California authorities said. Decades later, the now 37-year-old must go to prison.

In 2019, the man’s sister went to the Oxnard Police Department and told officers her brother raped her in 2001 and 2002 when she was 8 years old, according to a news release from the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office.

McClatchy News is not releasing the brother’s name to protect his sister’s identity.

The San Diego man was 14 and 15 years old at the time of the attacks, officials said.

The case was transferred from juvenile court to adult court and the assaults were classified as “particularly violent and serious,” officials said.

“I would have a completely different life and would be a different person if he had not repeatedly raped and tortured me,” the man’s sister said in court, according to the Ventura County Star.

He is accused of planning the attack and threatening to kill his sister with a knife if she told about it, officials said.

“Facelifting her brother at today’s sentencing and delivering her victim impact statement took incredible strength and courage,” District Attorney Erik Nasarenko said in the press release.

The brother’s attorney, Moriya Christie, told the Ventura County Star that he is remorseful and “takes responsibility for” his actions.

He pleaded guilty to three counts of rape, three counts of forced oral sex and two counts of sexual penetration with a foreign object, prosecutors said.

He was sentenced to 30 years in prison, officials said.

Oxnard is located about 60 miles northwest of Los Angeles.
