Hip-hop has been around for 50 years. Although the genre originated in New York, it has spread significantly throughout the world. In the early 90s, rappers from the East and West coasts were getting a lot of attention while disrespecting other regions. But at the 1995 Source Awards, André 3000 of the hip-hop duo Outkast ensured that the city of Atlanta was recognized with his infamous award acceptance statement: “The South has something to say.”
