Northwest Houston chase ends with 2 arrests after foiled bank scheme

Following a failed counterfeiting scheme at a Capital One bank, authorities arrested a man and woman after a dramatic car chase in northwest Houston.

Deputies with the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office said they responded to a forgery call at the Capital One bank in the 3000 block of FM 1960 on June 14. When deputies arrived, they saw the suspect vehicle fleeing the parking lot and tried to stop the driver, but they refused to stop, so a chase ensued.

The chase ended in the 900 block of Eagle Glide Dr., where officers identified the driver as Damaris Valero.

Investigators also said James Stegall, the man who reported the counterfeiting, claimed he was forced by suspects to open accounts using fake IDs. However, further investigation revealed that Stegall was complicit in the incident.

Valero was charged with felony escape and her bond was set at $7,500 in the 482nd District Court. Stegall was charged with tampering with a government document and is awaiting bond in the 351st District Court.
