Shooting spree in Southern California leaves one dead and another hospitalized

One person was killed and another was hospitalized after a suspect allegedly fired a gun at passing cars and then stripped naked in Riverside County on Monday.

Riverside County Sheriff’s Department authorities flooded the intersection of State and West 7th Streets in San Jacinto due to reports of gunshots shortly after 7 a.m.

Surveillance footage from a nearby business obtained by KTLA’s Shelby Nelson shows a man walking down the street. A short time later, what sounds like gunshots can be heard as cars drive by on State Street.

The driver of a black sedan crashed, destroying the front of the vehicle. A white pickup truck was also found with several bullet holes, two of which had penetrated the windshield.

It is currently unclear whether one of the two gunshot victims was in these vehicles.

Witnesses at the scene believe the man was shooting indiscriminately at passing cars. Some reports say he was seen undressing after the shooting.

The person believed to be the suspect later entered the Carniceria El Toro.

“At first I didn’t pay any attention, it was just a normal customer and a normal day,” the store’s clerk, who asked to remain anonymous, told KTLA. “Then when I finished with the customer in front of him, he was walking back and forth asking me, ‘What can I buy for a dollar?'”

The employee said she gave him some options and the man started looking around.

“Then he put his hoodie on and I got nervous,” she explained. “I thought, ‘Is he going to rob me or something, because he was sweaty and looked a little nervous.'”

Eventually the man left the store, was tracked down by officers and taken into custody.

KTLA has reached out to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department to learn the identities of the victims and suspect and is awaiting a response.
