Houston Texans alternate helmet is great but there’s a better bed

The Houston Texans made some bold choices this offseason, opting for unique uniforms and helmets that have seriously caught the attention of the NFL world. Many fans flocked to the Texans’ social media posts to rave about the stellar designs of their new uniforms and alternate logos. The colors, the designs, the style choices, all of this was embraced wholeheartedly.

Even the alternative helmets, of which they have two, scored points. There’s the standard navy blue, the red Toros logo, and then the H-Town blue, all of which look fantastic. So good that they might have the best alternate helmets in the entire NFL. That’s why the NFL folks on Prime Video asked which alternative helmets were the best in the NFL.

Now, we’ll ignore the fact that they got the Texans and possibly Eagles alternate helmets wrong, but their question got us thinking about whether the Texans have a rival this season. The red helmets, with the Toros horn, and the blue H-town helmets look fantastic. Yet even though they are some of my favorites, there is one that simply takes the cake.

The black and white striped helmets worn by the Cincinnati Bengals are second to none. While the Toros and H-Town helmets demonstrate modern creativity and ingenuity, the black and white striped Bengals helmet simply captures an essence that cannot be ignored.

It’s sober, classic and elegant. It is stylized to stand out in any era, whether it is the first, the current, or a more distant era. Bringing something out in such a subtle way is very difficult to do. If there’s something to be said for the bombastic nature of the new Texas helmets, there’s also something to be said for an understated helmet that can stand up to more bombastic designs.

The Toros and H-Town are two of the best new designs ever, the Bengals’ white and black striped design is just as better.
