Newark man allegedly attacked wife and two children in East Orange

A Newark man faces charges for attacking a woman and two children in East Orange on July 4.

The Essex County District Attorney’s Office said Jihad Hagler, 27, attacked the woman and children around 1 a.m. at an apartment in the 100 block of Park Avenue.

Authorities said the woman and one of the children suffered life-threatening injuries. The other child was being treated for injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.

Authorities say Newark police arrested Hagler on the evening of July 4 for a separate incident, when it was revealed he allegedly attacked the woman and children in East Orange.

Hagler was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
