Houston will experience more heat in early July, and the tropics will remain active.

Forecast for Monday:

More heat is expected for early July. Temperatures on Monday will reach the 90s, with what looks to be above 105. Even though we are under a dome of high pressure, there is still a chance of isolated showers or thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening.

Another hot and humid day
Heat advisory in effect until 7 p.m. Monday.

Saharan dust:

On Sunday evening, the Saharan dust moved towards Texas and is expected to remain there until the beginning of the week. Saharan dust can reduce air quality, help our marine ecosystem and create red sunrises and sunsets. If you are sensitive to hazy conditions, be sure to wash your hands and change clothes if you go out for extended periods of time.

The dust gathered at the start of the week.

In search of the tropics:

Beryl is now a Category 4 hurricane, making it the first hurricane of the 2024 season. From Sunday evening into Monday, it moves toward the Windward Islands, bringing tropical storm-force winds and a storm surge of up to 9 feet. Beryl will continue to move westward across the Caribbean Sea and, by Thursday, will approach the Yucatan Peninsula, which is weakening to a tropical storm. We will continue to monitor how far Beryl travels north once it approaches the Gulf of Mexico, but impacts to Houston appear unlikely.

Hurricane Beryl is moving through the Windward Islands tonight.
Beryl will continue to move through the Caribbean, eventually reaching the Yucatan and the Gulf of Mexico.

Another tropical wave behind Beryl has a 70% chance of developing over the next 7 days. If it grows, it will have enough warm water to help it grow stronger.

In the southern Gulf of Mexico, Tropical Depression 3 will weaken Monday as it makes landfall in Mexico. This will have no impact on Southeast Texas.
