Wolff denies any connection between the incident between Verstappen and Norris in F1 Austria and the subsequent collisions in 2021.

The collision between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris during the Austrian Grand Prix was a topic of discussion in Formula One. Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff dismissed claims that Verstappen’s clash with Norris was the result of previous incidents that went unpunished. The incident occurred at Turn 3 and caused both drivers to puncture their tires, ruining their chances of winning the race. Norris criticised Verstappen for dangerous maneuvers while braking, which resulted in Verstappen receiving a 10-second penalty from the race stewards. McLaren team principal Andrea Stella argued that Verstappen’s aggressive racing style was not adequately taken into account by the race stewards in previous battles with Lewis Hamilton. However, Wolff dismissed the comparison between the two situations, stating that they were at a different point now and that there was no connection between the incidents. He also mentioned that Mercedes was interested in Verstappen but recognized the need for the team to improve its performance on the track. Despite their recent success, Wolff admitted that they still need to do more to remain competitive and attract top drivers like Verstappen.
