A fire early Saturday evening at a building in Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park caused an estimated $180,000 in damage, a city of Buffalo spokesperson reported.

According to the report, the fire broke out in the first floor restroom of the park’s Shelter House. Firefighters responded to a call about the fire shortly before 6:40 p.m. The cause is under investigation.

The Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy website says the one-story Shelter House, built in 1903 and renovated in 2016, provides restrooms, water fountains and a winter warming space for park users.
