Rabid fox attacks Jefferson County resident in her home

STAPLETON, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Authorities say a Jefferson County woman was attacked by a rabid fox in her home last Friday.

The Jefferson County Health Department was contacted regarding the incident on Quaker Road between Stapleton and Wrens.

The fox was killed after the incident.

The fox was collected by the Jefferson County Environmental Health Service and sent to the Georgia Public Health Laboratory in Waycross, Georgia. Test results from the GPHL confirmed that the fox had rabies.

Due to the infection, the victim is currently receiving rabies treatment.

The Jefferson County Health Department’s Environmental Health Division asks all Jefferson County residents to have their pets vaccinated against rabies and to avoid all contact with wild animals.
