Bryson DeChambeau hopes to continue having good times at LIV Golf Houston

HOUSTON (KIAH) — It’s been an incredible run for Bryson DeChambeau, who has become one of the most entertaining golfers in 2024 even though he has yet to win a major.

DeChambeau put on a show at last month’s PGA Championship, shooting a thrilling 7-under 64 on the final day, but it wasn’t enough to take home the trophy, as Xander Schauffele birdied to move ahead. advance and win his first major tournament.

Even though he came close to winning, DeChambeau was confident he played his best in Valhalla.

“I gave it my all,” he said. “I put in as much effort as I could and knew my ‘B’ game would be good enough. Clearly someone (else) played incredibly well.

The California native who played his college ball at SMU also played well at the Masters earlier this year, finishing sixth. But the shortage of LIV Golf Tour participants winning a major tournament continues.

In LIV, DeChambeau led his team, Crushers GC, to first place in the standings midway through the round before their stop in Houston, the eighth on the LIV Golf Tour. Individually, DeChambeau is 15th in financial classification.

DeChambeau hopes to have a good performance in Houston to prepare him for the next major tournament, the US Open. He won it in 2020, his only major title.

Even though the course at The Golf Club of Houston is different than Pinehurst NC, DeChambeau hopes that doing well in Houston will lead to success at the U.S. Open.

“There’s a lot of water and a lot of tough holes (in Houston), so you have to drive well, iron well and make a lot of putts,” he said. “Hopefully that week they make it really firm so they can give us a test for it next week.”
